| The OutRage! website seems to be closed definitively for unknown reasons. While doing my research, it was sometimes opperative but most of the time it was not in function. Maybe the work of hackers or simply a condition to the February 2005 deal reached within the dancehall industry and gay organisations. In any cases, this is the way the text originally appered on their webpage. |

| Beenie Man personally denies apology... and sings kill gays songs to prove it Outrage! News Service September 1, 2004 Original link for this article: LINK Jamaican dancehall-reggae star Beenie Man has personally denied he had ever apologised for his kill gays music and, to prove it, performed songs inciting the murder of lesbian and gay people. In two separate articles, The Jamaica Observer newspaper revealed Beenie Mans disavowal of his apology at the Red Stripe Summer Sizzle concert at James Bond Beach, Jamaica, on Sunday 22 August. The concert was part of Beenie Mans birthday celebrations. He chose to celebrate by brazenly performing a medley of his kill gays songs, in a calculated provocation to the gay community. If Beenie Man was affected by the recent unwelcome attention he has attracted from gay rights groups who are lobbying to have the deejay's upcoming tour halted and his contract with Virgin Records cancelled, he did not show it. He delivered an explosive set during which he performed some of the singles that have drawn the ire of the international gay community, reported the Jamaica Observer (Beenie's memorable bash on the beach), Tuesday, August 24, 2004. Beenie Man, who was celebrating his birthday, took time to point out that he did not apologise for his gay-bashing lyrics, and went on to perform some of his anti-gay tunes before delving into his popular hits, wrote Jamaica Observer journalist Karyl Walker (Champions, action and a disciplined stage show), Tuesday, August 24, 2004. Beenie Mans record company, Virgin Records, issued an apology on behalf of the singer in early August. However, Beenie Mans management variously denied that he had anything to do with it, that the statement was aimed at the gay community or even that it was an apology at all. But this is the first time that Beenie Man himself has personally disavowed the apology. His denial of the apology was followed by a performance of the anti-gay songs that gay and human rights groups have been campaigning against, said Brett Lock of British gay rights group OutRage!, which is coordinating an international campaign against violent anti-gay reggae murder music. This shows his true, unrepentantly homophobic colours. It vindicates our claim that the so-called apology was concocted by PR people at Virgin Records and not a heartfelt statement of regret from Beenie Man himself. If Beenie Man is going to insist on performing these songs, then he should expect further concert cancellations and redoubled efforts to have him prosecuted added Mr Lock. In addition to Beenie Mans deliberately homophobic set, The Jamaica Observer reports (in the same issue of the paper) that another singer targeted by the Stop Murder Music campaign, Bounty Killer, made it very clear that he would not apologise for his gay-bashing lyrics. |
