NOTE: It's not the only time that Tony Rebel had to face homophobic speech during his annual concert, Amnesty International satrted their 'Jamaica: Battybwoys Affi Dead' report by describing Capleton and Sizzla's extreme homophobic performance at Rebel Salute 2004. Jamaica Observer report similar behaviour in 2008 for Lutan Fyah. For the 2001 perfomance, Capleton also made homophobic comments at the 2001 concert. Jamaica Gleaner reports: 'And when the Fire On Rome man declared his intentions on Sodomites (lesbians), complete with sword - yes, sharp sword - in hand, it was clear that some Damage would be done'.
DISCRIPTION OF THE CONCERT BY A FRIEND
At a concert in Jamaica at 13th January 2001 during his concert, Bunny Wailer gave seven messages on morality. The truth he is spreading included a concept that woman are made for man to multiply. So only the sexual contact between man and woman is blessed while sexual contact between man and man and woman and woman is cursed. He talks about a DJ in a dance urging the battyman to be dead and advising the audience to light up where a man dances with a man and a woman with a woman. Later he talks about the immorality of a woman showing naked in movies to entertain man misleading them not to go and find a babymother and make children. Then he sings about fire and brimstone on Sodom and Gomorrah. Finally he is talking about AIDS being a desease having its origin in the sexual contact betwen man and man. With all this he not only reject and deny scientific truth that clearly shows that nothing of this is true. He not only deny that love can happen betwen people of the same sex. He accepts and supports with all these messages the anti-gay-movement with the aim to make gay people a target of beating and even killing".
NOTE: My friend is German, not Jamaican, like me he listen to these speeches with biterness and didn't fully understand the context of the inclusion of 'Battyman fi dead' when he wrote this critics. Still he made valid points in his overall critics and decided to keep it.
